Keith is finally feeling well enough to start being active again! 😅 Lindsey has been continuing to train for our upcoming trip to Portugal... and Keith can finally rejoin the training.
Check out our new posts and videos 🆕 🎥 📝
Update on Keith 😷 💉
As you read in last week's newsletter, Keith has started feeling better. However, he has not fully recovered just yet. The Shingles inside his mouth and on his face have mostly healed. A few light red patches on his chin and near his lips still haven't fully healed yet. We hope that those will continue to clear up over the next week or so. Keith is finally feeling well enough to go out to eat so we headed out to Kitchen 88 in American Fork, UT to finally eat some delicious food together!
Keith's ear infection has also really started to resolve. 😌 He still has a small amount of fluid/infection in his ear but it doesn't bother him nearly as much as it had been. Thankfully, he can sleep comfortably now and is only occasionally bothered by the infection. Keith has an appointment with an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) doctor this week. We are hopeful that the ENT will prescribe additional medication and not require surgery to fix Keith's ear. 🤞
Zwift training 🚴♂️🥵
Now that Keith is feeling better, he has started trying to rebuild his fitness. Before getting sick, Keith was feeling stronger than ever. He had been consistently lifting weights and riding his bike every week for the past few months. Unfortunately, a few weeks on the couch due to the Shingles infection was very detrimental to his fitness. 😔
Keith has completed a few indoor training rides on Zwift to start to regain his fitness. He is also performing a daily set of patella/quadriceps tendon rehab exercises to re-prepare his body for training again. The Zwift training rides have been much more difficult than Keith expected. His legs still feel relatively strong but his cardio fitness completely fell off. We know that he will fully recover soon but it is disheartening to lose so much fitness due to this illness.
More hiking "train"-ing 🛤️ 🥾
Lindsey has been as diligent as ever in her hiking training for our upcoming trip to Portugal to hike the Camino De Santiago, Portuguese Route. She has been completing long-distance hikes with a weighted backpack multiple times a week. This week, Keith was finally able to rejoin her in these training hikes.
Together, we hiked the Deer Creek Trail along the Deer Creek Reservoir. This trail has become a favorite training trail of ours for both biking and hiking. The route is moderate in difficulty, long enough to be challenging to complete, and has spectacular views of the reservoir and surrounding mountain ranges. 😍 In total, we hiked a little over 8 miles (12.9 kilometers) with 750 feet (229 meters) of elevation gain. Hikes like this should set us up well for our long days on the Camino De Santiago, Portuguese Route.
Upcoming posts and videos 👷 👷♀️️
Lindsey has wrapped up the post series about our Gulf Shores, Alabama family trip. She is working on posts from her recent trip to Redfish Lake in Idaho. We also have several prior trips that we haven't yet shared so be sure to subscribe to our blog if you haven't done so already.
