Lodging on the Camino: From Hostels to Hotels
Keith and I enjoyed the various and inexpensive options for lodging along the Camino de Santiago. Each night was a little different and offered different amenities.

A windy training ride 🌬️ πŸ₯Ά

Keith is officially making the switch from skiing mode to cycling mode. πŸš΅β€β™‚οΈ His first ride out this week was a brutal one! Keith faced challenging headwinds and cold temperatures throughout his entire route towards American Fork Canyon. At times, Keith was cranking out over 250 watts and only going 8 mph (13 km/h)! This is less than half the speed he would normally be traveling at. Thankfully, his return route home was much easier thanks to the significant tailwind. πŸ˜…

Later in the week, Keith went out on a much longer training ride. This time, the winds were calm and he was able to ride a significant portion of the route in his aero bars. It's good for Keith to get extended practice in the aero bar position as he will be using this for long stretches of the Tour Divide route. Keith is really looking forward to the longer days and longer rides as he ramps up his training capacity.

Ski weekend with Brooke and Andrew 🎿 πŸ”οΈ

Lindsey's cousin Brooke and her fiancΓ© Andrew chose to visit the Salt Lake City area during their ski vacation this year. They chose to stay with us on Friday evening through Sunday morning so that we could all catch up and ski together on Saturday.

Unfortunately, the snow conditions weren't that great thanks to a lack of fresh snow and soaring, Spring-like temperatures. This did make for a beautiful bluebird day at Snowbird though! 😎 Andrew had crashed earlier in the week and hurt his knee so he had to take it pretty easy for the rest of the trip.

We started the morning with some chill warmup laps off the new Wilbere chairlift. Thanfully, Andrew's knee started to feel better and better as his muscles warmed up. We eventually all headed up Gadzoom to try out a longer run to see if his knee would hold up... and it did! We were all very happy to see that Andrew could continue to ski with us for the remainder of the day.

Later on, we made our way to the Peruvian Gulch side of the resort. Andrew had a goal to ski "Chip's Run" from top to bottom. For those that don't know, Chip's Run is a super long, intermediate-level (blue square) run, from near the summit to the base of the mountain. Due to Andrew's knee concerns, we all took it easy on the way down and enjoyed the breathtaking mountain views.

We were even fortunate enough to catch some of the Junior Freeride Competition being held in the Upper Silver Fox area. It was amazing to see what these young skiers (ages 12-17) were capable of. They definitely made us hold our breath a few times as they sent it off 30-foot (9.1-meter) cliffs! 😱

Eventually, we wrapped up the ski day together and headed home. We made a quick stop to drop off Andrew's skis at Ski 'N See before grabbing a late lunch at In-N-Out Burger. We then took the scenic route back to our house across the Point of the Mountain (Suncrest, UT). Unfortunately, the views over Utah Lake weren't what we were hoping for due to an unexpectedly dense inversion layer that had settled into the valley. πŸ˜”

It was so nice having Brooke and Andrew visit us this year. We hope they come back again sometime soon! πŸ‘‹ We also hope that Andrew has a speedy recovery and that there isn't anything seriously wrong with his knee. πŸ™

Preparing for our next visitor 🧳 🏠

Next week, we have Lindsey's cousin Cara coming to spend a week with us. It's been several years since Cara last visited so we are excited to catch up with her. Lindsey and Cara are both serious planners so I am sure that there will be a fully planned itinerary for her stay. πŸ€“
