Keith is Zwifting again 🚴‍♂️ 💻

Keith started Zwifting again on his Stages SB20 indoor bike trainer. He had been debating on selling this indoor trainer now that he has completed the Tour Divide race. However, Keith has now decided not to sell it since there are many times throughout the year when it will be useful to have an indoor biking option.

Reasons to ride indoors vs outdoors

  • When the air is smoke-filled from wildfires.
  • When the air is dust-filled from strong windstorms.
  • When it is raining.
  • When he only has an hour or two available for training.
  • When it is snowy or icy outside and not safe to ride on the roads.

New wheel day! 🛞 🙌

A few days before leaving for Banff, AB and the start of the Tour Divide race, a local bike shop damaged one of Keith's bike wheels beyond repair. They were trying to straighten a dent in the rim and accidentally punched a hole through the rim itself! 😞

Looking on the bright side, this gave Keith and excuse to buy a new set of wheels for his bike! 😀 Keith shopped around and eventually ordered a set of Hunt XC Wide wheels. These wheels hit the sweet spot of price, performance, and maintainability. So far, Keith has been very happy with the new wheelset.

Day date: bike ride + ice cream 🚴‍♀️ 🍦

Lindsey and Keith went on a "day date" this week. The date started with a bike ride down to Utah Lake. It's been a while since Lindsey has been on her bike so she was excited and nervous to start riding again. The ride along the lakeshore is always so beautiful! There have even been improvements to the "Lindon beach" area including a lot of freshly manicured sand.

After returning home and getting cleaned up, we headed to Provo, UT to get some delicious ice cream from the Rockwell Ice Cream Company. Lindsey had visited this establishment with her mom while Keith was riding in the Tour Divide. She was excited to take Keith there since she knows how much he loves ice cream.

Outdoor fitness ride 🚵‍♂️ 😎

Keith has been dying to get back on his bike since he wasn't able to ride for the two and a half weeks that they were in Tucson, AZ. Now that Keith has his new wheels, he was able to go on his first official outdoor fitness ride since completing the Tour Divide.

Keith decided to ride his regular training route to see how it feels now compared to when he was training. Keith was surprised at how much more strength he had in his legs. He was able to easily climb steep roads that used to be quite difficult. Also, his training route just "looked easier" when compared to the massive mountain passes that he had to climb over during the race. Keith will need to regain some of his lost endurance from not riding for nearly three weeks but that will come back soon enough.
