Weekday bike ride to Bridal Veil Falls in Provo, UT ⛰️🚲
The weather has been unseasonably warm in Utah. This isn't good for the upcoming ski season, but it has allowed us to continue to enjoy summertime activities. This week, we loaded up our bikes and drove our Jeep up to the Murdock Canal Trail trailhead in Lindon, UT. From there, we rode our bikes south towards Provo Canyon.

We then headed up the Provo River Parkway trail until we reached Bridal Veil Falls. The route to the waterfall meanders along the Provo River and provides scenic views of Provo Canyon in all directions. It takes a little work to make the climb up to the falls, but the views are totally worth it!
Amazing Doughnuts at Parlor Doughnuts in Pleasant Grove, UT 🍩 😋
November is Lindsey's birthday month! 🥳 Lindsey has started receiving free offers and discounts from some of the local restaurants and businesses in our area. One particular offer Lindsey couldn't pass up was a free birthday doughnut at Parlor Doughnuts in Pleasant Grove, UT.

Parlor Doughnuts is known for its "layered" donuts, which have an almost biscuit/croissant-type characteristic, but with the sweetness of a traditional doughnut. Lindsey ordered a "Turtle" doughnut, and Keith ordered a "French Toast" doughnut. Both were incredibly delicious and huge!
Weekend brunch at Locals in Provo, UT 🥓 🍳
Instead of a date night dinner out this week, we opted for a Saturday morning brunch. Keith loves going out for breakfast, and Lindsey enjoys sleeping in on the weekends. A late morning breakfast at Locals in Provo, UT, was the perfect way to spend the morning together.

Locals is known as a "100% gluten-free" restaurant, but don't let that scare you away. The service is great, the food is excellent, and even the coffee was quite good. Keith ordered the breakfast tacos with a side of mini pancakes. Lindsey ordered the breakfast fries, and we were both shocked when the server brought out a massive pile of fries on a baking tray! 🤯 Locals is definitely a quality breakfast spot, and we can't wait to visit again to try some of the other options, like the Fried Banana Bread Sticks. 😋
Keith's long MTB ride in Provo Canyon and Kyhv Peak 🚵 😅
Keith has been slowly transitioning back from full-time distance riding to a mix of gravel riding and mountain biking. This week, Keith decided it would be fun to mix the two sports by putting together a huge loop consisting of paved trails, forest service roads, a massive road climb, and a nearly 3,000-foot (914-meter) singletrack descent. 😅

Keith started his ride, pre-dawn, at just before 6:00 AM 😴. It was dark and quite cold outside, which made for a brisk ride to the trailhead. Keith had swapped his bike over to his mountain biking wheelset, which has chunkier tires made for singletrack trail riding. These tires are great for the trails, but significantly slowed Keith's progress on the road/pavement sections.
Keith's planned loop took him up to one of his favorite training routes in Provo Canyon. Keith climbed to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, descended the Alta Ditch road, and then descended further down the lower section of Dragon's Back until he reached Bridal Veil Falls. At this point, Keith stopped to filter water from the Provo River before heading onto the next segment of the loop.

Keith then made his way to the Bonneville Shoreline singletrack trail that connects to the Kyhv Peak road climb. This is a grueling singletrack climb that requires significant physical effort and technical skill to ride. The Kyhv Peak road climb was up next. No biggie, it's only a 2,500-foot (762-meter) sustained climb! 😅

At this point, Keith had to make a decision... Initially, Keith had planned to ride the remaining 10 or so miles (~16 kilometers) of the Kyhv Peak gravel road traverse towards Hobble Creek Canyon. He was then going to turn around and ride back to the top of the Kyhv Peak climb to start the singletrack trail descent. However, Keith had taken much longer than expected to reach this point in the loop due to riding on his mountain bike tires vs his gravel tires. So, due to time constraints, Keith decided to forgo the extended gravel ride and opt to directly descend the Kyhv Peak singletrack.

The Kyhv Peak singletrack trails are right up Keith's alley. They are a mix of fun flow, steep tech, and a little bit of bushwhacking! Keith was also super excited to find the infamous leather couch and trampoline that are sort of hidden along the trails. All in all, Keith rode a total of 61 miles (98 kilometers) with a total elevation gain of 4,888 feet (1,490 meters). Not a bad day!
