Post 3: Montana: Glacier, Helena, and Mom Joins the Adventure
Lindsey left Banff and headed towards her next adventure in Montana. She spent a couple of days driving, hiking, and exploring on her own before meeting her mom.

A rainbow to kick off the week! 🌈 😄

It has been raining here a lot over the past few weeks, which is unusual for Utah. It's good to see though since we desperately need all the water that we can get. One benefit of the recent storms has been the appearance of rainbows! One, just happened to be visible from our back patio.

Date night dinner at El Tio Tacos & More 🇲🇽 🌮

For date night this week, we decided to check out El Tio Tacos & More in Provo, UT. This local Mexican restaurant was highly rated on Google Reviews so we knew we would be in for a treat.

Lindsey ordered the El Tio Bowl and Keith ordered the Birria Taco Special. We also shared a appetizer of chips and salsa. Everything was served fresh and promptly. We were both very happy with our meals but its hard to recommend this restaurant over other local Mexican restaurants. Everything was good, but not necessarily stand-out great. There are so many good, local restaurants that something needs to really stand out in order to compete.

A walk around Neilsen's Grove Park 👫 🍁

After our date night dinner, we decided to take a quick walk around Neilsen's Grove Park in Orem, UT. This is a fantastic local park! It has a beautiful walking path, a duck pond, multiple seating areas including covered pavilions, a hedge garden, and a giant swing.

It was starting to get dark and cold so we didn't stay too long. We did make one full lap of the walking path. We were hoping to get a photo on the giant swing but unfortunately, it was cordoned off for maintenance. This quick walk was a nice way to spend the evening together and enjoy the beautiful sunset over Utah Valley. 🌄

Cycling South Fork and Kyhv Peak road climbs 🚴‍♂️ 😅

Keith had been planning to do a big gravel ride this weekend but, unfortunately the dirt roads were too wet and the mountain passes still had a lot of snow on them from prior storms. So, instead, Keith decided to get in some climbing practice by completing two large road climbs in Provo Canyon.

First up was the appetizer, South Fork Road. This climb starts at Vivian Park and climbs up to the entrance to Trefoil Ranch. The climb starts a little steep but is quickly tapers off to a manageable grade, averaging about 3%. In total, this climb rises nearly 600 feet (183 meters) over about 4 miles (6.4 kilometers).

After completing this first climb, Keith descended back down to the near the mouth of Provo Canyon to tackle the main climb of the day, Kyhv Peak Road. This is a much more significant climb, averaging 6% grade over roughly 6 miles (9.6 kilometers) for a total ascent of approximately 1,700 feet (518 meters) to the Utah Lake overlook. The climb actually continues for about another 1,000 feet (305 meters) on a dirt road but Keith decided not to deal with it this day due to risk of mud and snow.

Even though the ride didn't go to Keith'e original plan, he still had an amazing day on the bike. In total, Keith rode 59 miles (95 kilometers) with a total vertical ascent of 3,589 feet (1,094 meters). Keith was also very excited to have set new personal best power outputs on both of these climbs!

Halloween fun at Kuwaharas Pumpkin Patch & Thriller Park 🎃 🧟

To end the week, we met up with our friends Stephanie and Anna to check out Kuwaharas Pumpkin Patch & Thriller Park in Draper, UT. This place has amazing fall and Halloween themed attractions. The attractions were all "kid friendly" (no actors) during the day but became more "scary" (jump-scare actors involved) after 5:30 PM.

We started the day by checking out all of the themed pumpkin rooms where guests could find several Instagram photo spots as well as select pumpkins for purchase. Afterwards, we navigated our way through a haunted corn maze! 👻 We then "took the train" to Halloween Main Street where we were treated to a variety of spooky stores and actors. As we exited Halloween Main Street, we arrived at the main Thriller Park area.

Thriller Park is the main attraction stage where live performers sang and danced, including allowing kids from the crowd to come on stage and "dance party" along with them. We also watched several aerial acrobats perform from suspended ribbons and hoops. It was quite a show!

Thriller Park is also home to the larger of the two corn mazes, this one actually being a maze, as well as the Once Upon a Time walk-through attraction. Both of these attractions were so much fun and so well put together. We also grabbed a late lunch at the Happy Tummie food truck. Yum! 😋

This was such a fun day out with our friends. We really enjoyed our time at Kuwaharas Pumpkin Patch & Thriller Park. This place would be especially fun for families with young kids. There are multiple, exciting attractions to keep kids entertained for hours.
