Beautiful weather for mountain biking! 🚵‍♂️ ☀️

The fall weather has brought cooler temperatures and beautiful foliage colors to the Wasatch Front. Keith has been mountain biking throughout the trail systems that connect Lehi, UT to Draper, UT (i.e., Corner Canyon) across the "Point of the Mountain."

Keith made it from his starting point on the Sensei Trail to the top of the Rush DH Trail. He planned to ride a lap on Rush DH and then climb back up to the top of Rush DH. Once back on top, he would then take the traverse trails over to the top of the South Maple Hollow trails to ride a lap on the Zooropa DH trail before catching the BST Trail back to his starting point. This would let Keith enjoy two of the best downhill-only trails in the area while also spending a lot of time on several other fun connector trails.

Unfortunately, it took Keith a lot longer to reach the Draper side of the trails than he expected, and he quickly realized that he would not have enough daylight to complete his original plan. So, Keith decided to bypass the Rush DH lap and instead opted to head straight over to Zooropa DH. The Zooropa DH trail was recently renovated, and it is now one of the best downhill flow/jump trails in the area!

The sun set on Keith as he returned back to his original starting point. Thankfully, Keith has planned ahead and brought his bike light with him. Keith had to ride for several miles in the dark, which is not something that he usually does. It was good to get some night-riding practice in though, as he will be doing plenty of that on his upcoming Tour Divide attempt next summer.

Exploring the new rail trail 🛤️ 🚵‍♂️

Keith has been looking for a way to ride from our house out to the Deer Creek Parkway trail that runs along the Deer Creek Reservoir. Keith enjoys his training rides along the reservoir but he doesn't like committing to the 20+ minute drive, each way, to ride the trail. There have been remnants of an old bike path that connected the Provo River Parkway trail to the Deer Creek Parkway trail but that old path was broken, resulting in forcing riders onto a heavily trafficked road for several miles. 😦

Over the past few months, the trail managers have ripped out an old section of unused railway between the Provo River Parkway trail and the Deer Creek Parkway trail, thus creating a "rail trail" connector between the two trail systems. One small section of tracks remains, but that should be removed soon. 😄 Keith now has a safe 25-mile (40.2-kilometer) route, each way, in which he can ride his favorite training trail. This will create a minimum of a 66-mile (106.2-kilometer) loop if he rides the entire route. This will be a great training distance and medium for his upcoming Tour Divide attempt next summer.

Before Keith could ride this route, he first had to perform some much-needed maintenance on his bike. It had been over a month since he last gave it a proper washing. Also, he needed to sew and patch the tire that had the sidewall puncture from his prior Kyhv Peak loop.

On the way back home, Keith decided to throw in a bonus climb up to Pipeline Road above Provo Canyon. It's been quite a while since Keith has ridden this road, and he forgot just how enormous the water pipe is!

Local Halloween displays 🎃 👻

With Halloween fast approaching, we decided to head out to see some of the local Halloween home displays. In case you didn't know, Utahns take their holiday decorations very seriously! So many homes in our area have permanent outdoor lighting along with massive yard displays for both Halloween and Christmas.

To kick off our Halloween display hunt, Lindsey and I went on a 4-mile (6.4-kilometer) walk around our local neighborhoods during the day. It was cool to be able to see the displays in the daylight so that we could see just how much work has gone into them.

Later that evening, Lindsey selected a few local houses on the Rocky Mountain Haunters - Haunt Map for us to visit. Seeing these displays in the dark was truly incredible! Some of these personal, yard-based displays rival that of smaller haunted houses that we have visited in the past.
