Update on Keith's Health 👂✅

Keith visited a local ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) doctor this week to determine whether he would need tube surgery for his ear infection. The ENT performed a few physical exams, looked into his ears, nose, and throat, and tested for fluid in his ear.

Thankfully, the ENT said that he didn't see any need for tube surgery! Keith's ear infection is nearly healed and only a small amount of residual fluid remains. The ENT prescribed another round of a higher dose of Prednisone to allow the remaining fluid to drain. Keith's ear infection should fully heal before our upcoming trip to Portugal. 🥳

Keith bought a walking pad 🚶‍♂️🏢

Keith has been struggling to find time to train for our upcoming trip to Portugal to hike the Camino De Santiago, Portuguese Route. Keith has been very busy between work, physical therapy for his knees, cycling training, and other commitments. Keith's colleagues have been using walking pads (under-desk treadmills) for the past few years while they work. This allows them to get their steps in during the work day rather than trying to find time after work.

Buy on Amazon

Keith decided that a walking pad would be his best option to ensure that he could get adequate walking time in before our departure date. Keith ordered the Lichico Under Desk Treadmill from Amazon. This is a fairly basic, powered, under-desk treadmill. It is quiet, relatively small, and easy to move out of the way when Keith wants to sit in his office chair. This is perfect for meeting Keith's walking needs. We will give a better review of this treadmill once Keith has been able to spend more time on it. So far though, it is working great!

More hiking practice 🥾 🍕

On Saturday, we spent the better part of the day hiking along the Bonneville Shoreline Trail in Provo Canyon. This has become a great training route for our upcoming Camino De Santiago, Portuguese Route trip. The trail starts with a steep climb of nearly 500 feet (152 meters) up to the main forest service road. This initial climb gets your heart racing! 😅 From there, the trail flattens out for the next few miles with only gradual elevation changes.

During our training hikes, we typically rely on energy bars (e.g. Clif Bars) and prepackaged snacks to keep our energy levels up. This time though, we decided to take an extra special snack for our lunch... leftover pizza from our Friday night date night! 🍕 😋

We hiked back to a viewpoint of Bridal Veil Falls. We have seen this waterfall numerous times from the lower viewing area. This time was unique for us as we gained a new, higher perspective of the waterfall. In total, we hiked 10 miles (16 kilometers) with nearly 700 feet (213 meters) of elevation gain. Oh, and we also saw a rattlesnake!!! 🐍 We tried to get a picture of it but it had already made its way up into the grass so the picture wasn't that great.

Catching up with old friends 🛣️ 🏜️

We had special visitors this week! 😄 Keith's old friend John, his wife Priscilla, and their friends visited us during their road trip to see Utah's Mighty 5 national parks. We met up with them towards the end of their trip for dinner at Maria Bonita in Orem, UT. It was so much fun catching up with them, sharing a meal, and hearing about all of their adventures during this trip. We also made a quick stop at Bridal Veil Falls since we were in the area.

The next morning, we met up once again to sneak in some last-minute hiking before they had to head to the airport. Due to time constraints, we decided to stay local for the hike so Keith chose his favorite local trail, Grove Creek to Indian Springs Campground in Pleasant Grove, UT. We weren't sure how John and Priscilla would handle the steepness of this trail but they both conquered it without issue. This was their first time hiking in the Wasatch Mountains and they were both amazed by the varied terrain and incredible views.

After the hike, we all came back to our home to get cleaned up and head to lunch. Well... the initial plan was to get lunch but instead, we decided to get ice cream at our favorite local ice cream shop; Brooker's Founding Flavors! 🍨 There is nothing quite as satisfying as ice cream after a long day of hiking in the hot sun. Unfortunately, we all ate our ice cream so quickly that we didn't snap any pictures. From there, we had to say our goodbyes as they had to head to the airport. 👋 🛫
