2025 Tour Divide: Racing (Day 1) - Banff, Alberta πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ to Koko Claims, British Columbia πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦
Day 1 of the 2025 Tour Divide was everything that I hoped it would be. It was challenging and rewarding in every sense. I still can’t believe that I am actually starting this race! 🀯

Lindsey was fitted for a knee brace 🦡 πŸ“

Lindsey recently had a Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injection in her left knee to help repair a small tear in her distal biceps femoris / lateral collateral ligament (LCL). Dr. Chappell recommended that Lindsey use a functional brace as a post-op recovery tool.

So, we drove to Ortho Pros of Utah in American Fork, UT, to get Lindsey fit for a brace. They were able to quickly fit Lindsey with a Donjoy Full Force functional LCL brace. They also recommended a special Reparel knee sleeve that is supposed to provide additional recovery through compression and a unique fabric that simulates low-dose infrared exposure to the injured area.

With the brace on, Lindsey immediately felt more stable. Her stride and cadence looked much more normal, and she regained some of the muscle control that she had lost from the procedure. Lindsey will continue to wear this brace, as needed, during the next few months until she fully heals.

Great Glizzy Gauntlet final prep 🌭 πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

The Great Glizzy Gauntlet, a 100-mile (161-kilometer) bike race, is just a couple of weeks away. Keith has been quite worn out due to a lot of stress at work, trying to keep up with cycling training, and taking care of Lindsey during her LCL recovery. So, Keith limited his time on the bike this week and decided to work on a game plan for the race itself.

If you haven't been following along, the Great Glizzy Gauntlet is no ordinary bike race. It is also an eating contest, where riders must purchase and eat at least one item from each of the 10 distinct Costco food courts along the route. Keith is planning to stick with the primary intent of the race and eat a hot dog (i.e., "glizzy") at each location.

Eating 10 hot dogs while riding 100 miles is going to be quite the challenge! So, Keith enlisted the help of Google's AI tools to come up with a plan for how to prevent an upset stomach and allow his body to successfully process everything. Keith also researched the UTA FrontRunner train schedule as he will need to ride the train back to Orem, UT, from the race end in Bountiful, UT.

Now that he has the logistics out of the way, Keith can focus on a few last-minute training rides before the official race start on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026.

Date-night at Aubergine Kitchen πŸ§† πŸ₯©

For date night this week, we wanted to grab something lighter/healthier since we also had plans to attend a pancake breakfast on Saturday. So, we drove to Aubergine Kitchen in Orem, UT, to enjoy their delicious Mediterranean bowls.

We have been to an Aubergine Kitchen in Draper, UT, but the one in Orem, UT, is much nicer in terms of decor and ambiance. The restaurant interior was extremely clean, beautifully designed, and well thought-out.

Lindsey ordered the Mediterranean Plate with falafel. Keith ordered the Tri-Tip Madeira Bowl with tri-tip steak. Both meals were beautifully presented and just as delicious as they looked. πŸ˜‹ This meal was exactly what we were hoping for in terms of not being overly-heavy yet still amazingly delicious.

Firefighter Pancake Breakfast at Sundance πŸ₯ž πŸ§‘β€πŸš’

On Saturday, we woke up early for a Firefighter Pancake Breakfast at Sundance, hosted by the North Fork Fire Department. Keith had considered riding his bike to breakfast, up and over American Fork Canyon, but he decided against it because Lindsey is still having difficulty walking after her PRP injection.

As we made our way to breakfast, we were treated to a view of the new, massive hotel that is being built. In our opinion, the designers have done an excellent job of blending in the new construction with the old-world charm of the original facilities. They have also greatly improved the walkability and patio seating throughout the area.

The pancake breakfast never disappoints! πŸ˜‹ The food was wonderful, and the portions were hearty. It's also nice to know that the proceeds go directly to the fire department to help with their operational costs. In case you didn't know, Keith used to be a volunteer firefighter when we lived in Indiana. So, supporting events like this is especially important to him.
