2025 Tour Divide: Racing (Day 2) - Koko Claims, British Columbia πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ to Butts Cabin, British Columbia πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦
I survived day 1, but now I am faced with the first major challenge of the race: the Koko Claims hike-a-bike section. 😨 I also pass through the town of Fernie, BC, 🌯 as I make my way to Butts Cabin for the night. πŸ›–

Lindsey is still recovering from PRP 🩼 🦡

Lindsey is having a rough time recovering from the PRP injection that she received a couple of weeks ago. She is currently in what the doctor describes as the "roller coaster phase" of recovery.

During this phase, the highs can make you feel close to fully recovered. Then, the lows sneak in and make you feel like you are right back at the start. It's a very frustrating and painful phase of the recovery process because you never know what you should expect, day to day.

Keith has continued working through the vast amounts of footage and photos from his 2025 Tour Divide race. So far, Keith has uploaded 6 of the 27 days of racing videos to YouTube. These videos will be automatically scheduled for release once the associated blog posts have been published. Keith has also completed 3 of the 27 days of the associated racing blog posts.

Keith has found that working in batches of 3 days, i.e., creating 3 race-day videos, then writing the 3 associated blog posts, is the most efficient way for him to work. This process allows Keith to keep the video editing process fresh in his mind while not getting so far ahead that he forgets what needs to be written about for each race day.

Keith competed in the "Great Glizzy Gauntlet" race 🌭 πŸͺ

🌭
This is just a brief overview of the 2026 Great Glizzy Gauntlet bike race. Keith will have a full race report in a separate blog post within the next couple of weeks.

On Saturday, Keith competed in the inaugural "Great Glizzy Gauntlet" bike race. The race slogan says it all:

"10 Costcos β€’ 100 Miles β€’ 3 Counties β€’ 1 Legendary Ride".

The primary goal of this race is to follow the designated route to each of the 10 Costco stores, starting in Orem, UT, and ending in Bountiful, UT. At each Costco, racers must purchase and consume one food item from the Costco food court, preferably a glizzy (i.e., hot dog 🌭).

Pedaling to the start 🚲 πŸŒ…

At 9:00 AM, Keith pedaled from our home in Orem, UT, to the first Costco, following the designated route from the Orem Central Station to the Orem Costco. Keith met up with about a dozen other racers who were exiting the FrontRunner train to make their way to the start. After a 3-mile, mostly uphill ride, Keith had reached the starting point of the race.

Keith was shocked to see roughly 150-200 racers had shown up for this inaugural event! 🀯 There were racers and bikes everywhere in the Costco parking lot. Keith knew that this would be a fun race. Keith then headed into Costco to get his first glizzy 🌭 before the official 10:00 AM departure.

The race begins! πŸš€ πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

The racers started off fast!!! πŸš€ So fast, Keith set several personal bests on sections of the bike trails that he rides regularly. Eventually, the pace slowed as the racers started to settle into groups.

The first 3 or 4 Costco stops were great. Keith planned to stay true to the glizzy 🌭challenge by purchasing and eating a hot dog 🌭 at each Costco. This meant that Keith would need to eat a total of 10 hot dogs 🌭 over the course of the race! 🀒 However, Costco stops 5 and 6 were extremely difficult since each was only 5 miles (8 kilometers) apart. This gave Keith's stomach very little time to recover from the prior glizzy 🌭 before it was time to eat the next one 🌭.

Keith powered through and continued to eat hot dogs 🌭 through Costco stop number 9. At this point, it was time to make the long, 20-mile (32-kilometer) push to the 10th and final Costco.

Racing the Costco food court clock ⏲️ πŸ”

Part of the challenge of this race is that you have to be at the 10th and final Costco food court before it closes at approximately 7:00 PM. This sounds like you have a lot of time to get there, but trust me, eating 9 hot dogs 🌭 along the way can really slow you down.

Keith knew he would be cutting it close when he left the 9th Costco at 5:40 PM. This didn't give him much time to reach the final Costco, and there was a strong headwind for most of the remaining ride! 🌬️ 😩 Keith gave it everything he had left and pushed as hard as he could to try to beat the clock...

Keith arrived at the 10th and final Costco at approximately 7:05 PM. He rushed into the Costco, which the main store area had already closed, and found that there was still one remaining food court kiosk in operation. Keith quickly purchased a final glizzy 🌭 and a celebratory ice cream 🍨. He was thrilled to have made it before the final food court closed. πŸ₯³

Keith had planned to eat the final glizzy 🌭, but he just couldn't stomach it (literally). 🀣 So, instead, he ate the ice cream 🍨 and stashed the glizzy 🌭 in his cycling vest for later. This still completed the challenge, but Keith did not obtain the "hot dog purist" achievement. πŸš«πŸ…

Final race results 🏁 πŸ†

The final race results are still being tallied. Racers have until midnight tonight (May 3rd, 2026) to submit their race results for verification. At the time of writing, Keith is in 19th place, which is amazing considering he raced this on his mountain bike while others were on fast, aero road bikes.

All in all, this race was so much fun!!! The stoke was high all day, and the weather was beautiful. Keith met so many unique personalities along the way, including one couple on a tandem and a dad/son tandem team. Special thanks to Leopold Marx for dreaming up and organizing this event!!!
