Keith's mid-week, fast training ride π π
Keith is planning to take on a couple of gravel races later this year (more info to come soon). These races will be high-mileage with lots of elevation gain. So, Keith has been focused on increasing his speed and efficiency on the bike in order to ensure that he can complete the races within the allotted time frames.
On Wednesday, after work, Keith set out to ride the 60-mile (97-kilometer) Jordan River Trail loop. This loop has less than 1,000 feet (305 meters) of elevation gain, which makes it perfect for working on sustained power and average speed. Keith spent the vast majority of the ride in his aero bars to improve aerodynamic efficiency and overall speed.

The ride was a huge success! Keith set many personal records on various segments of the loop. Keith also achieved a new personal best average speed over that distance. This ride definitely gave Keith a confidence boost that he is on the right training track for the upcoming gravel races.
An epic day-date in the mountains ποΈ π
Lindsey is finally feeling recovered enough from the PRP injection to get out of the house! π So, on Saturday, Keith planned an epic "day-date" in the mountains, driving the Mount Nebo Scenic Byway.

The day started with breakfast at Aroma Cafe in Santaquin, UT. This is a relatively new breakfast-and-lunch restaurant that Keith noticed last week during his ride along the Mount Nebo Scenic Byway loop. The diner decor was pleasing and inviting. The food was delicious! Lindsey ordered the Eggs Benedict, and Keith ordered a breakfast burrito with a side of pancakes. π Everything was seasoned incredibly well and very flavorful. This was exactly the experience we were hoping for to kick off our big day out!

On our way to the start of the scenic loop, we made a quick stop at Joe Coffee & Espresso Bar in Payson, UT, for some much-needed caffeine. We then started our drive up the Mount Nebo Scenic Byway. We made it a point to stop at basically every overlook. The views from each vantage point are widely varied and spectacular! π€© Some viewpoints put Utah Lake on display, others highlight picturesque canyons, and others highlight the sheer vastness of the Wasatch Mountain Range.
Eventually, we descended back down into the valley. However, our day-date wasn't quite done yet. Keith surprised Lindsey with one last stop at Rowley's Red Barn in Santaquin, UT, to pick up an afternoon treat. πΏ π¨

It was so nice to finally feel like things are getting back to normal with Lindsey's PRP injection recovery. We both really missed being able to spend time together in the mountains and just generally outside of our home.
Preparing for Myrtle Beach ποΈ βΊοΈ
We are both getting super excited for our upcoming trip to Myrtle Beach with Lindsey's mom, sister, brother-in-law, and niece and nephew!

Keith used to visit Myrtle Beach almost annually with his family, so he is excited to return to see how the area has changed. We will be staying about 15 minutes north of where Keith's family used to vacation, so he is hoping to get to check out that specific area again.
During this trip, we are also excited to finally be able to celebrate Lindsey's mom's official retirement!!! π₯³ Her retirement has been in the works for several years now, and we are all so thrilled that she has finally made it official.
Keith's fastest Park City Gravel Loop XL ever! π π
As we previously mentioned, Keith has been working on improving his multi-hour, sustained power output and average speed as he prepares for two upcoming gravel races. To put his abilities to the test, Keith took on his personal "Park City Gravel Loop XL" route, intending to significantly improve his fastest time ever on the loop.
This loop starts at the new Mayflower area at the southern-most end of the Deer Valley Resort, near the Jordanelle Reservoir. From there, Keith traversed the historic Union Pacific Rail Trail as he made his way north to the outskirts of Park City, UT. The rail trail then continued north to Coalville, UT, where Keith grabbed a quick resupply of water and electrolytes before the longest stretch of the route.

After leaving Coalville, UT, Keith continued north along the perimeter of Echo Reservoir, eventually reaching the small town of Henefer, UT. After a quick visit to the old "Grump's Gas Station" π€£, Keith began the biggest climb of the day as he made his way west to East Canyon State Park.

After descending past East Canyon State Park, Keith began the strenuous gravel ride along Jeremy Ranch Road. This road is full of short but steep, punchy climbs that really test tired legs and lungs. π A strong, upslope headwind also didn't help matters! π¬οΈ

Eventually, Keith exited the canyon and made his way onto the Park City Paved Trail System. This was Keith's path south, back toward his starting point. This section was super fast thanks to a strong tailwind for most of the remainder of the route.

At the end of the day, Keith was successful in accomplishing his goals! π Keith managed to shave nearly 30 minutes off his fastest time on this loop. Keith also sustained 191 watts (normalized power) for the five and a half hour ride. Keith couldn't have been happier with his results.
